2010 Honda Accord Crosstour
MSRP $29,670 - $34,020
For 2010, the Honda Accord gains a wagon version dubbed Crosstour; it's the first Accord with a rear hatch since Honda dropped the Accord wagon in the car's 1998 redesign. That was two decades ago, and now there are competitors like the Subaru Outback and recently introduced Toyota Venza for Honda's wagon.
The Accord Crosstour comes in front- or all-wheel drive. Unlike the Venza and Outback, which offer both four- and six-cylinder engines, the Crosstour has only a V-6. Trim levels include the EX and EX-L.
Controversial styling isn't usually a Honda thing — the automaker has shifted its riskiest designs to its Acura luxury brand — but the Crosstour is sure to stir up plenty of it. A massive grille dominates the front. The grille is far bigger than the Accord sedan's and gives the headlights a squinting look that recalls Honda's smaller Civic sedan. In back, the rear body panels coalesce at a black panel below the rear window — not unlike the Insight hybrid.
Dual tailpipes are standard. Rather than use the Accord sedan's clear-lens taillamps, the Crosstour has traditional red lamps. Along the side, a rising crease and chrome door handles resemble similar elements on the sedan.

The Crosstour's five-seat interior doesn't stray from the Accord's. A broad center panel houses climate and stereo controls, and the two-tier dashboard slopes gently toward the windshield. The Crosstour adopts the Accord coupe's three-spoke steering wheel rather than the sedan's four-spoke wheel. Its gauges also have blue backlighting; most other Accords have white illumination.
The cargo area offers levers to release the 60/40-split backseat; there's also a large storage box under the load floor. A reversible panel — one side is carpeted, the other is hard plastic — sits atop it.
The EX comes standard with a moonroof, power front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. EX-L models add heated leather upholstery and USB/iPod stereo connectivity; a navigation system with a backup camera is optional.

2011 Honda CR-Z
MSRP: TBD
The 2011 Honda CR-Z is the third hybrid in Honda's lineup. It joins the compact Civic Hybrid and Insight, both of which seat five. Despite having only two seats, the small CR-Z has the lowest fuel economy of the three. The CR-Z is intended to be sportier, both in appearance and driving experience.
The two trim levels include a base CR-Z and a feature-laden CR-Z EX.
The CR-Z is reasonably true to the concept car of the same name that hit the auto show circuit in 2007, but with less dramatic curves. Inspired by the CRX two-seater sold in 1990 and '91, the CR-Z's spirit and design shares that model's split liftgate window, an element that remains controversial in terms of both style and the driver's visibility in the Insight and Toyota Prius.

The interior has a busy but effective design similar to that of the Insight, with cockpit-style driver-oriented controls and displays. Even the ventilation controls are on a pod near the driver; there's no conventional control panel on the center of the dashboard, which puts the optional navigation system right of center. The cloth seats are roomy, and the steering wheel both tilts and telescopes.
Standard features include, but aren't limited to, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, single-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and a CD stereo with a USB audio interface. The EX trim level adds xenon headlights, fog lights, a premium stereo with subwoofer, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather steering wheel and a center storage console. Navigation is optional only on the EX.
Storage bins behind the seats are separated from the cargo area by a bulkhead that can be folded forward to extend the cargo hatch's floor — similar to a folding seat's backrest. A retractable cargo cover is available.
Like other Honda hybrids, the CR-Z uses a relatively simple system that puts an electric motor in tandem with a gas engine, in this case a 1.5-liter four-cylinder. Though the engine shuts off when the car is stopped, it's always turning over when the car's in motion. The engine and motor combined produce 122 horsepower, which is 24 hp more than the Insight does.Standard features include, but aren't limited to, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, single-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and a CD stereo with a USB audio interface. The front-wheel-drive CR-Z is now the only hybrid in years to offer a manual transmission as well as an automatic. The six-speed stick is standard; a continuously variable automatic transmission is optional and includes steering-wheel shift paddles for a manual step-gear feel. The manual transmission gives lower mileage, though, at 33 mpg in combined city/highway driving. The CVT provides an EPA-estimated 37 mpg.
To suit the driver's needs, the CR-Z has Sport, Normal and Econ modes. Econ maximizes fuel economy, while Sport makes the acceleration more responsive and decreases the power-steering assist for a sportier feel.
Along with the frontal airbags come seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtains. Also standard are active head restraints, antilock four-wheel-disc brakes and an electronic stability system with traction control.
2010 Honda Element
MSRP $20,525 - $24,320
The Element received redesigned headlamps and taillamps and a new front grille last year, so it more closely resembles its larger, more sedate cousin, the Pilot. Element's trademark center-opening swing-wide doors with no B-pillar remain a distinguishing feature. The SC features a different, custom grille, painted bumpers, larger wheels and a lowered stance.
- Available 16- or 18-inch wheels
- Standard power mirrors
- Chrome exhaust tips (EX and SC)
- Optional fog lamps

- Standard water-resistant seats (LX and EX)

2010 Honda FCX Clarity
The 2010 Honda FCX Clarity is a zero-emissions electric vehicle that is compressed-hydrogen gas powered. It uses NO gasoline. Hydrogen is converted into electricity by the V Flow fuel cell stack and is stored in the Lithium-ion battery. The FCX Clarity goes 60 miles per kilogram of hydrogen with a range of 240 miles.
2010 Honda Fit
MSRP $14,900 - $16,410
There are no significant changes for 2010, since it was just redesigned last year.
The current Fit resembles the previous generation but with a longer, gradually sloping nose. To account for the base of the windshield being several inches farther forward, Honda incorporated a large sail-shaped window into each A-pillar, which visually extends the side windows forward of the front doors. It's a peculiar look, but it has a purpose — better visibility.
- Standard 15-inch wheels
- Optional 16-inch wheels
- Sport models have a body kit, rear roof spoiler, fog lights and a security system with remote keyless entry
- 60/40-split folding rear seat

2010 Honda Insight
MSRP $19,800 - $21,300
The 2010 Honda Insight brings back the name borne by Honda's first hybrid car, which was also North America's first hybrid, sold from 2000 to 2006. Now, rather than a two-seat runabout, it's a five-seat hatchback that's intended to beat the Toyota Prius in terms of price and just about every non-hybrid in terms of mileage. There are two trim levels, LX and EX, differentiated more by features than by appearance.
Though it shares some of its underlying structure with the Fit, Honda's smallest car, the Insight is a dedicated, hybrid-only model. Its nose looks more like Honda's FCX Clarity experimental fuel-cell car than the cutesy Fit. It recalls the Prius' aerodynamic profile and wedge-shaped tail. The LX and EX are practically the same on the outside; the EX has alloy rather than steel wheels and it adds turn-signal lights to the side mirrors.

The Insight's interior volume qualifies it as a compact, though it's slightly less accommodating than the Fit. The interior quality is good, but expect no difference in upholstery or finish between the LX and EX. They share the same cloth seats; leather isn't offered. The EX adds features like a center console/armrest, cruise control, and shift paddles and audio buttons on the steering wheel. A navigation system is optional.
The backseat accommodates two quite well and three in a pinch. The Insight is only the second hybrid car, along with the Prius, to include a full-folding backseat that extends the cargo area.

Like other Honda hybrids, the Insight uses an electric motor to assist in acceleration and to recharge the battery pack when braking or coasting. It drives like any car. Though it technically can accelerate a little bit on electric power without burning fuel, the gas engine continues turning, so the experience isn't as silent and alien as it is in many hybrids.
The EPA-estimated gas mileage is 40/43 mpg city/highway, though drivers have achieved significantly better results in some conditions.
Safety features include side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags for both rows of seats and antilock disc/drum brakes. An electronic stability system with traction control is available on the EX trim level.

2010 Honda Ridgeline
MSRP $28,450 - $34,430
Honda is making only marginal changes to the Ridgeline pickup for 2010 after last year's styling refresh. Three new exterior colors are available: Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl and Polished Metal Metallic.
Aesthetics aside, there are some problems with the Ridgeline's styling and design: A traditional bed cap or bed-mounted crossover toolbox won't fit, there's a limited selection of tonneau covers, and visibility is tough with some angles. While the composite bed-liner maintains a fresh look and is wide enough to swallow 4-by-8 construction materials, it doesn't have slots for two-tier loading or vertical dividers for cargo control. The 5-foot cargo bed's highlights, of course, are the lockable in-bed trunk (8.5-cubic-foot capacity), four cargo-area lights and a dual-action tailgate that opens up and down to support long items or from the side for easier access to items at the bed's front.
- Integrated trailer hitch with seven-pin trailer wiring
- Bed has a total of eight tie-downs
- Daytime running lights
- Optional 18-inch wheels
- Power-sliding rear window
- Optional heated front seats
- Optional seven-speaker, six-CD changer sound system
- Optional leather seating
- 3.5-liter V-6, aluminum block/cylinder head, single overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder
- Rated at 250 horsepower, 247 pounds-feet of torque
- Five-speed automatic transmission
- Heavy-duty transmission cooler, heavy-duty radiator with two 160-watt fans
- Variable Torque Management four-wheel-drive system that runs mostly in front-wheel drive until traction demands torque be sent to the rear wheels
- Locking rear differential
- All-disc antilock brakes
- Side-impact airbags for the front seats
- Front-seat active head restraints
- Backup camera included with optional navigation system
- Gross vehicle weight rating: 6,050 pounds
- Payload: 1,546 pounds (RT, RTS), 1,497 pounds (RTL), 1,486 pounds (RTL with navigation)
- Maximum towing capacity: 5,000 pounds
- Axle ratio: 4.53:1
- Minimum ground clearance: 8.2 inches
