Cruise control is now standard on all models, which also have a new steering wheel with multifunction controls. A Harman Kardon sound system is a new option for all models. Mini celebrates its 50th anniversary with two packages for the hardtop, the Camden and the Mayfair (named after two locations in London). Both have unique paint, wheels, and exterior and interior trim; they come with the 172-horsepower turbocharged engine.
The design of the second-generation convertible looks enough like the first that there is little difference to casual observers. The most noticeable difference is the roll bar, which used to stick up behind the backseat head restraints, is now active; it's visible but rests low unless a rollover occurs, in which case it pops up to provide protection.

The convertible's soft-top opens partially, like a sunroof, or can open fully as a conventional convertible top would. There's also a standard Openometer that tracks how much time you've driven with the top down. The convertible's cargo volume is more than respectable at 6 cubic feet.
The Cooper is actually roomier inside than the modest exterior dimensions imply.

A John Cooper Works version of the Mini debuted in 2009 in all three body styles — the regular two-door hatchback, extended-length Clubman and convertible. Whereas previous JCW Minis featured a supercharged four-cylinder, current models are powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 208 hp at 6,000 rpm and 192 pounds-feet of torque from 1,850 to 6,600 rpm. (The engine, according to Mini, can briefly raise boost-pressure when accelerating to achieve 207 pounds-feet of torque from 2,000 to 5,100 rpm.)
With the standard 6-speed manual transmission, Mini says the John Cooper Works can hit 62 mph in 6.5 seconds (6.8 seconds for the Clubman).
Besides the extensive changes under the hood, these hot-rod Minis also feature unique 17-inch alloy wheels, high-performance brakes and a different exhaust system. As with other Minis, the automaker offers a number of ways to personalize John Cooper Works cars.
If those enhancements aren't enough, you might want to take a look at the available John Cooper Works accessories. They include a sport suspension with red springs, drilled brake discs, a rear spoiler, a suspension brace and carbon-colored trim pieces.

The Clubman comes in three trim levels: the Cooper, the turbocharged Cooper S and the turbocharged John Cooper Works edition.
Differences between the regular Cooper and the Cooper Clubman are most apparent in back, where the Clubman's rear-quarter pillars are painted in contrasting black or silver. It matches the rear bumper and, if desired, the roof. The swing-out doors necessitate a split rear window, and each portion gets its own wiper.
The wheelbase is 3.2 inches longer, which Mini says helps the Clubman keep its wheels near the bumpers to improve handling. The Clubman has more than 40 possible color combinations, as well as options like checkered side mirrors and a Union Jack roof.

2011 Mini Countryman
The Mini Cooper Countryman serves as the brand's entry into the small-crossover segment. It has a taller stance and, unlike other Coopers, four conventional side doors and available all-wheel drive. Buyers have a choice of a normally aspirated 4-cylinder engine or a turbo 4-cylinder (S versions). It's scheduled to hit U.S. dealerships in early 2011.
The Countryman is instantly recognizable as a Mini, but it loses some of the "cuteness" that's been a defining element of the regular Cooper. The front grille is larger and more upright, and the headlights aren't circular like they are on the Cooper. Overall, the Countryman's front-end styling is more aggressive and serious. Roof rails are standard.
The addition of rear side doors does wonders for backseat ease of entry, which is a problem in the Cooper. The Countryman's roof can be finished in black or white instead of body color. A lowered sport suspension, a panoramic moonroof and adaptive xenon headlights are optional.
Seventeen-inch wheels with run-flat tires are standard. Eighteen- and 19-inch rims are optional.
The Countryman's cabin looks a lot like the regular Cooper, with a tachometer in front of the steering wheel and a large center-mounted speedometer. It features a Center Rail system, which consists of two rails that go from the front of the cabin to the backseat, separating the bucket seats in each row. The system provides owners another way to customize their Mini by adding various attachments to the rails, such as cupholders and storage bins.
For passenger space and comfort, the Countryman's rear bucket seats can slide up to 5.1 inches, and they also recline. The cargo area measures 12.2 cubic feet, which is similar to what a compact sedan offers, but it increases to 41 cubic feet after folding the rear seats.
Standard features include cruise control, a CD stereo with an auxiliary input jack and configurable ambient lighting. Optional features include a premium audio system, a navigation system and the Mini Connected iPhone integration system.
The Cooper Countryman has a 120-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder while the Cooper S Countryman is powered by a 180-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. A 6-speed manual is standard with both engines, and a 6-speed automatic is optional.
Front-wheel drive is standard, but the Cooper S Countryman can be fitted with Mini's All4 all-wheel-drive system. An electronically controlled limited-slip front differential is optional.
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags for both rows and an electronic stability system.
2011 Mini Countryman S
Countryman S models feature unique styling such as a roof spoiler and a rear diffuser.
The S model's interior has sport seats that are finished in cloth and leather or optionally in full leather.
The Cooper S Countryman is powered by a 180-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. A 6-speed manual is standard with both engines, and a 6-speed automatic is optional.
Front-wheel drive is standard, but the Cooper S Countryman can be fitted with Mini's All4 all-wheel-drive system. An electronically controlled limited-slip front differential is optional.
